May Day Celebrations 2010

FONS May Day Celebrations were held at the school Friday 30th April where parents, children, staff and the local community came together to enjoy traditional May Pole dancing, a country dancing display and a huge variety of stalls, games and rides.

Having set up in the sunshine and crossing our fingers for the rain clouds to go away we were really disappointed to feel the first few drops of rain just as we opened the gates!

In what we thought was a break in the clouds, our country dancing team skipped on to the playground and began their dance. At that moment the skies opened and the children danced through a downpour! We were so very proud of them as they kept dancing, all with smiles on their faces.

Our May Queen, King and attendant were slightly luckier and didn't need the collection of umbrellas we had on hand as Mrs Baron and Mrs Richardson carried out the crowning ceremony.

The ceremony was followed by maypole dancing from our fabulous team who worked so hard to learn the dances and did not put a foot wrong - there were no tangles this year and the spiders web was beautifully completed!

Along side the stalls and events we held a prize money raffle and a mufti day and overall the day has raised approximately £920.00 which will be put to very good use enhancing the education of the children at our school.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their help, the children who took part so cheerfully despite the rain and everyone who came along and supported this event.
