Dear Parents,
 
Welcome to our Summer Term Curriculum Map! This is to inform you of what your child will be learning this term. We continue to use a Creative Curriculum (The Creative Learning Journey) which includes Art, D.T., Science, History and Geography. This term our RE will be taught separately R.E. from the Creative Learning Journey.
 
Special Events this Term
As part of our exploration of ’The World Around Us’ the children will be completing a village study and traffic survey. They will also be tasting fruits before creating their own fruit salad as part of ‘How Does Your Garden Grow’.
Equipment Needed in Year 1

 

PE kit (Wednesdays and Fridays) They will need both indoor and outdoor kit including plimsolls or trainers and spare socks. We would rather children wear shorts or leotards for gymnastics, but if you prefer your child to wear long sports trousers, PLEASE check their length when your child is barefoot.

 

Named bottle of water (water is also available from the drinking fountain)

Journey
The World Around Us
This half term the focus of our topic will be the local area. The children will explore the village and develop their mapping skills. They will also have the opportunity to learn about homes in the past.
 
 
(Geography,and History)
How Does Your Garden Grow
Our RE will include a church visit and a study of weddings.
(Geography, Science, Art and DT)
Continuing the theme of the previous half term will lead into the study of plants around the school . The children will explore conditions for growth and grow their own plants. They will also complete a food science project, creating fruit salad before designing and making fruit collages.
Literacy
Beginning with a themed poetry unit, the children will then learn about fantasy worlds in stories in a n extended narrative unit. Part of this work will be a short section looking at a Winnie the Witch story. PLEASE let me know if you have any problem with this.
This half term’s work will
focus on non fiction, looking at information texts and recounts.
Numeracy
Our work this half term will include time, counting, partitioning, securing number facts and calculating.
Continuing to consolidate and extend their skills, knowledge and understanding, the children will be looking at data handling, measures and relationships between numbers.
