Admissions

A school year runs from September 1st to August 31st. By law, parents are required to make sure that their child is educated from the beginning of the term after his or her fifth birthday.

Primary Schools in Peterborough offer places to Reception children at the beginning of the Autumn Term. Admission arrangements for these children are at the discretion of the school.

Newborough CE Primary School has a pupil admission limit of 30 children. The age range is 4 – 11 years, i.e. Reception to Year 6. After seven years at Newborough School children living within the catchment area of Newborough and Borough Fen transfer mainly to Arthur Mellows Village College, Glinton but other schools can be considered based on parental preference.

Admission Arrangements for the Academic Year 2025/26

Prior to 1st December 2024, our school was a voluntary controlled school, meaning the Local Authority were responsible for our admission arrangements. These were determined by Peterborough City Council within statutory timescales and can be found below.

Following acadamisation, Peterborough Diocese Education Trust (PDET) are responsible for admissions in our school. All places are allocated in accordance with our Admissions Policy which you will find below.

In-Year Applications

From 1st September 2025, the way in which parents / carers  can make an in-year application (for any year group, during the school year) for our school has changed.

If you are interested in joining our school and would like to arrange a visit please contact: office@newborough.pdet.org.uk

To apply for an in-year school place at our school, please complete the application form linked below. All applications are managed by our Trust (rather than the Local Authority).

If your child has an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) you should not apply via this form. Please contact your Local Authority's SEND team for details on the process to follow.

Apply for an in-year school place

You will be contacted within 15 school days to let you know if a place can be offered.  Please note that if you apply during a school holiday period, this timescale may be longer.

How do waiting lists work?

If we are unable to offer a place for your child at the school, you can place their name on the waiting list. You can either indicate your wish to do this on your application form or by emailing admissions@pdet.org.uk

Reception year applications - your child’s name will remain on the Reception year waiting list until the end of the school year. A new application form will have to be completed once your child moves into a new year group.

For other year groups (Years 1 – 6) - your child's name will be kept on the waiting list for one term only (based on 3 terms per year). If you wish for your child’s name to stay on the waiting list for the remainder of the academic year, you must confirm this in an email to the Trust (admissions@pdet.org.uk) at the beginning of each term to renew your interest i.e. in January and /or following the Easter break (April / May). A new application form will have to be completed once your child moves into a new year group.

How to Appeal for a Place at Newborough CE Primary School

If you have applied and been refused a place at our school (in any year group), you are entitled to appeal against that decision. Appeals for PDET academies are administered by The Diocese of Peterborough Education team. For more information on the process please see: Appeals - The Diocese of Peterborough. If you wish to appeal please contact: education@peterborough-diocese.org.uk and ask for an appeals pack.
